Pattern deck Kickstarter!
Aug. 9th, 2023 10:08M.A. Carrick (Marie Brennan and Alyc Helms) have launched a Kickstarter to make the pattern deck from their Rook and Rose series a reality!
The pattern deck is a deck of oracle cards that can be used for divination and for games, much like tarot cards. Even if you haven't read the Rook and Rose books, I really recommend checking out the Kickstarter if you're interested in tarot and divination -- there are some interesting differences between tarot and pattern, and I've had a lot of fun poking around the pattern related stuff on the authors' website.
That said, you should definitely read the books! The third book in the trilogy comes out next week, meaning the series is almost complete, and it's a lot of fun -- the setting is a Venice-like city several hundred years after it was conquered by northern invaders, and there's quite a lot of swashbuckling as well as secret identities, scary magic as well as astrological magic, queerness, and fancy clothes and fancy balls. I really enjoyed the first two, The Mask of Mirrors and The Liar's Knot, and I am extremely excited for the last book. (And hoping that the authors do write a second trilogy in the setting!)
